The stamp that comes to life

Marine Life in the Bailiwick of Guernsey will come to life thanks to a special stamp issue from Guernsey Post.

The unique miniature sheet stamp will go on sale early next year as part of Guernsey Post's Bailiwick Marine Life issue.    When the stamp is viewed using the standard camera on a smart phone or tablet, an exclusive three minute mini-documentary will be activated showcasing the fish in their natural habitat, including the rarely seen Black-face Blenny.

The stunning images and footage taken for the stamps are the work of Sue Daly, a world-renowned underwater photographer.  Ms Daly, who lives in Sark, a small island which is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, was able to capture some of these remarkable fish depicted on this special issue during her summer dives around Sark.

To view the documentary users will simply have to download a free app to their Smartphone or Tablet.  When the app is installed, special image recognition technology will recognise the stamp and automatically activate the fascinating mini-documentary.

This stamp has been created in conjunction with the Lowe Martin Group, a Canadian-based security printing firm. "This is one of the best Augmented Reality stamps we have worked on," said Heather Simmons from the Lowe Martin Group.  "It is interesting, informative and colourful."

Guernsey Post believes that, through advances in technology, it will also open up new opportunities.

"The diverse nature of this product combines traditional stamp collecting with the very latest advancements in technology, and hopefully a new breed of collectors." said Mr Smillie.
