For immediate release: September 2011
Guernsey Stamps is pleased to announce the release of its 2011 SEPAC* stamp issue (27 September 2011) which, for the final time in the Sea Guernsey series, showcases some of the beautiful scenery found on the island.
Victoria Marina (36p stamp) lies within the harbour at St Peter Port, Guernsey's capital, which has remained a busy trading post since Roman times. As the image depicts, the buildings surrounding the harbour offer a wonderful mix of styles.
With the sky lit up beautifully, L'Ancresse Bay (45p stamp) is one of the largest bays on Guernsey. Located on the north of the island, the water is ideal for windsurfing, surfing, sailing, sea kayaking and fishing.
The stamp bearing the SEPAC inscription depicts Bordeaux Harbour (52p), a small fishing port which is a popular haunt with fishermen and divers found in the north east of Guernsey. In the foreground is the cobble-like slipway, which enables boats to move to and from the water.
Guernsey's south coast features numerous high cliffs along its coastline, with steep valleys leading down to coves and small beaches. There are many breathtaking bays, such as the one featured on the 58p stamp, which has been captured at sunset.
Close to St Peter Port is Salerie Harbour (65p stamp), which is named after the practice of salting fish. As the image shows, surrounding the harbour are numerous Heritage listed period houses which typify the area.
Completing the set of six stamps is an image of Petit Port (70p), which is one of the most spectacular of the south coast beaches. Rocky and exposed, it lies at the bottom of cliffs and can only be reached by a climb down of over 270 steps.
Dawn Gallienne, head of philatelic at Guernsey Stamps said: - "As part of our commitment to SEPAC we have, since 2007, produced a stamp for the SEPAC special edition folder which bears the Cooperation's logo.
"Produced biennially, the SEPAC special edition folder has taken on a common theme, 'Beautiful Corners of Europe', which has given us the chance to showcase some of the wonderful scenery that Guernsey has to offer. For each folder we have chosen a stamp from our Sea Guernsey series, reflecting the island's long association with the sea. In previous years we have featured Saints Bay Moorings, also known as Saints Harbour (2009); and Point Robert Lighthouse on the island of Sark (2007)."
