For immediate release – 3 November 2014
Guernsey and Alderney school children whose
designs were chosen to feature on this year’s Guernsey and Alderney Christmas
stamps, will be presented with first day cover stamps on 4 November (Alderney)
and 6 November (Guernsey).
Working
with Guernsey schools, the philatelic team at Guernsey Post presented a special
competition idea, which meant the youngsters had to get creative and begin
thinking about the festive season in early springtime.
The
competition helped to introduce the children involved to concepts of design,
composition, use of media and techniques, as well as collaboration and working
to a deadline.
In Alderney, school
children at St Anne’s were asked to create a Christmas scene and encouraged to
create their own design ideas.
Dawn Gallienne, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post said: - “The level of entries exceeded our expectations and the overall standard of the designs was superb, resulting in a wonderful Christmas collection for 2014.”
Following final design approval from Her Majesty the Queen, the stamps are available to pre-order (issue date 6 November) online at www.guernseystamps.com or by calling Philatelic Customer Services on (01481) 716486.
