Guernsey Post releases latest Endangered Species issue
Guernsey Post is delighted to announce the release of its latest issue featuring the Giant Panda as part of the Endangered Species series (issue date 20 February).
The issue comprises a miniature sheet (£3.00) together with a presentation pack (£3.90) and first day cover (£4.20).
The Giant Panda is the ninth stamp issue in the endangered species series, which has featured the Golden Snub-nosed Money (2004); the Basking Shark (2005); Florida Everglades (2006); Mount Gorilla (2007); the Amur Leopard (2009); the Asian Elephant 2010); the Blue Whale (2011) and the Bengal Tiger in 2012. The complete set including the Giant Panda issue is available to purchase in an Endangered Species folder priced at £33.56.
The entire endangered species series, including the Giant Panda, has been illustrated by renowned wildlife artist Joel Kirk, whose pictures are sold around the world. Limited edition prints of the stamp artwork are available to purchase on the Guernsey Stamps website.
"There is only one species of Giant Panda and a recent study has shown that there are only around 1,600 left in the wild," said Bridget Yabsley, philatelic marketing coordinator at Guernsey Post.
"In our latest endangered species series Joel Kirk has once again produced fantastic illustrations. The amount of detail he manages to put into these paintings is incredible - you expect the illustration to have a textured feel."
