The National Trust of Guernsey was established on the 7th December 1960, following more than a year of discussions, informal meetings and the drafting and approval of its constitution.
The aim of the Trust today remains as it was set out at the original meetings; 'to preserve and enhance the Island's natural beauty, its historic buildings and its heritage'.
2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Trust and as such they will be celebrating in style with a jam packed schedule of fund raising activities.
Perhaps the largest event planned for this commermorative year is 'Le Viaer Marche', which when translated from Guernsey French patios means literally, The Old Market. This is an annual event in the Trust's calendar, usually held at Guernsey Saumarez Park o nthe first Monday in July. In fact this 19th century style fair is so popular amongst both locals and tourists that many visitors schedule their holidays to ensure they can attend.
