Guernsey by Day and Night

Description

Guernsey Post’s new non-value indicator (NVI) retail booklets containing stamps depicting Day and Night Scenes, which showcase the natural beauty of the Bailiwick of Guernsey’s stunning islands.

Available in GY and UK values from 25 July, the self-stick stamps feature photographic images taken by talented Guernsey photographers Chris George and Ben Fiore.

Picturesque Bordeaux Harbour is overlooked by Vale Castle which offers spectacular views of the islands of Herm and Jethou. In the far distance is St Martin’s Point.

Niaux Water Mill in Talbot Valley was built in the mid 1300s.  Following extensive restoration work, in 2017 the water mill began turning again, preserving Guernsey’s heritage for future generations.

Built in 1819, Picquet House in St Peter Port provided a harbour-side military presence and also housed a strong room to lock up disorderly individuals.

There are many idyllic spots to be found in the Bailiwick, not least in Les Padins, found in the secluded valley in St Saviour, about five miles from St Peter Port.

Fermain Bay is home to one of Guernsey’s most picturesque beaches. It is hidden on the rugged east coast and is a delightful walk from St Peter Port along the cliff path.

Rousse Tower is one of 15 loophole towers built between 1778 and 1779 to defend Guernsey against the threat of a French invasion. Re-fortified in the 19th century, it has been wonderfully maintained.

Guernsey’s first sea-water bathing pool was constructed at la Vallette, near St Peter Port, in 1844. In 2019, a not-for-profit charitable trust was set up to rejuvenate the pools in an area where stunning scenery can also be enjoyed. 

Picturesque Victoria Marina at St Peter Port looks out towards the neighbouring islands of Herm and Jethou, providing a popular walk-ashore facility and easy access to the bustling town seafront.

Viewed at sunrise from The Strand in St Peter Port, Castle Cornet has guarded the harbour for 800 years and offers breath-taking views towards the other Bailiwick islands; Herm can be seen in the background.

Castel Church is situated on a site of pagan worship. Legend has it that the foundations of the church were originally laid in a field called Les Tuzés at Les Eturs.
