Guernsey Post is delighted to announce the winners of its schools’ competition to design this year's Christmas stamp designs.
Having received nearly 300 entries on the theme of “What does Christmas mean to you?” the winning designs were chosen by a judging panel including Guernsey Post’s chief executive, Boley Smillie, and Dawn Gallienne, head of philatelic.
Details of the winners’ names, ages and schools: -
Katka Devon (9) and Patience Ogier (8) - St Mary & St Michael Catholic Primary
Georgia Winstanley (9) and Keone Hardy (10) - Hautes Capelles
Ruby Parker (10) - Blanchelande College
Giselle Fuller (9) – Melrose
Mali Chatterton (9) – Sark
St Anne’s pupils in Alderney also had the opportunity to design Alderney’s Christmas stamps. Working in groups the pupils were asked to create a Christmas scene. Head of Art Marcus Cowling encouraged the pupils to create their own design ideas, which has resulted in a very special set of stamps.
Dawn Gallienne, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, said: - “The response to our competition - and the support from the schools involved - has been overwhelming; the children’s creativity and enthusiasm has really shone through. It has been a very difficult job choosing the winning designs, and I am delighted that these wonderful designs will feature on our stamps, as they capture perfectly what Christmas means to many people.”
The stamps will now be subject to final design approval from Her Majesty The Queen.
Each of the winners will receive £100.00 for their schools and a set of the Christmas stamps. The winners, along with the local media, will also be invited to a preview of the stamps in September ahead of their issue date of 6 November. Further details will be released nearer the time.
