Stamps depict Places to Visit in the Bailiwick

Guernsey Post’s philatelic bureau announces that it will issue stamps depicting delightful map illustrations of Guernsey’s St Peter Port, and the neighbouring islands of Herm, Sark and Lihou. The stamps have been created by Guernsey-based illustrator and designer Caroline Cummins and highlight some of the special places to visit across the Bailiwick of Guernsey (stamp issue date: 23 April 2025).

The stamps: -

Lihou (69p)

The tiny island of Lihou is situated just off Guernsey’s west coast and is only accessible via a winding, cobbled causeway at low tide.

Lihou and the nearby L'Eree headland were designated as Guernsey's first RAMSAR wetland site and the marine reserve is now home to more than 200 species of seaweed and 150 species of bird.

Herm (£1.37)

At just a mile and a half long by half a mile wide, car-free Herm boasts several wonderful beaches.  It is just three miles from Guernsey and accessible in only 45 minutes by boat, offering a true view of Island life.

Herm's scenic coastal paths can be walked in their entirety within a couple of hours, providing the perfect opportunity to enjoy beautiful, unspoilt beaches, sample island life, explore the natural coastline and take in spectacular views of neighbouring islands and the French coast.

St Peter Port, Guernsey (£2.82)

Considered to be among Europe’s prettiest harbour towns, St Peter Port has been a busy harbour since the Roman era, when Guernsey was a key trading point between France and England.

Standing proudly in St Peter Port is Castle Cornet, Guernsey’s ancient harbour fortress, which was isolated upon a rocky islet until the construction of a breakwater and bridge in the 19th century. Today, it houses five fascinating museums which tell the story of Guernsey’s military and maritime history.

Another popular attraction in St Peter Port is Hauteville House, which once belonged to Victor Hugo during his exile from France (1851-1870).

Sark (£4.63)

Six miles east of Guernsey and only 20 miles from the coast of France lies Sark, the smallest of the four main Channel Islands. With just 600 residents and no cars,  Sark has earned a reputation for offering a leisurely and relaxed pace of life, which draws visitors to return year after year.

Visitors can explore the many inlets and bays hidden along the island's coastline; visit the main village to soak up its quaint charm; and explore the grounds of the 17th century manor, La Seigneurie - its award-winning walled garden being one of the finest of its kind in the British Isles with a rich diversity of flora.

Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, said: - “Originally designed for the 2024 Sepac theme, Main Tourist Attraction, and subsequently withdrawn,  we’re delighted to include these delightful stamps in our 2025 programme. Caroline has recreated a set of maps of popular places to visit within the Bailiwick, presenting some of the key attractions in a light-hearted manner.”

The stamp products will be available to pre-order from 9 April 2025 at www.guernseystamps.com or by calling Philatelic Customer Services on +44(0)1481 716486.
