Guernsey’s
‘Heart of the Forest’ quartet stamp series has been created by Gail Armstrong,
an award-winning paper sculptor and illustrator who creates stunning
three-dimensional works of art from flat sheets of paper.
The stamp theme takes its inspiration from Love Paper, a global campaign which promotes the sustainable and attractive attributes of print, paper, and paper packaging.
The campaign highlights how the paper industry depends on sustainable forest management to provide a reliable supply of wood fibre, the key raw material for paper products. It advocates that sustainable forest management plays an important role in conserving biodiversity and eco systems.
Look closely and you’ll see Gail has recycled old stamps and stamp sheets, bending and shaping the paper to depict some of the elements of sustainable forest management. She has created some stunning three-dimensional paper cut images including a chestnut tree with a vibrant blue bird for the first stamp in the series.
The stamps will be released during the course of the year with the souvenir sheet which brings the whole heart of the forest together being released in November.
