Guernsey Post celebrates a year of stamps

Guernsey Post announces the launch of its 2016 Yearbook for Guernsey and Alderney.

The 2016 Yearbook, which contains all of this year’s stamps, souvenir and miniature sheets for both Guernsey and Alderney, includes commemorative issues for Guernsey’s five-year series of Stories from the Great War, as well as the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, the most important battle in British history.

Stamps celebrating 500 years of Postal History and the 150th anniversary of the publication of Victor Hugo’s Toilers of the Sea, which was written entirely during Hugo’s exile in Guernsey, also feature.

Guernsey’s popular Lunar New Year series features stamps celebrating the Year of the Monkey; the Philippine Eagle is depicted as part of the Endangered Species stamp series; and the rich variety of wildlife to be found at Longis, Alderney’s largest terrestrial reserve, are also featured.

To mark the formal designation of Herm, Jethou and The Humps as a Ramsar site, Augmented Reality (AR) technology is used to bring the stamps to life for Guernsey’s special stamp issue.

For this year’s Sepac issue, wonderful Guernsey scenes have been chosen to represent the theme of Seasons. Guernsey also produced stamps to mark the occasion of The Queen’s 90th birthday, which depict Her Majesty enjoying the spectacular Trooping the Colour ceremony in London.

Completing the programme for 2016 are Guernsey’s Christmas stamps, created for Guernsey and Alderney, which feature some of the images commonly associated with the festive season, from the Christmas tree decorated with tinsel and lights, to the gifts sitting under it.

Guernsey Post’s head of philatelic, Bridget Yabsley said: “Our Yearbook, produced in full colour and bound into a high quality hard backed cover, contains all of our 2016 Guernsey and Alderney stamps, which are provided in separate glassine bags so they can be placed into the affixed mounts at leisure. Priced at £63.56 - the exact value of the stamps it contains – the Yearbook is great value for money and a wonderful Christmas gift.
