Guernsey's self-stick stamps available at Post Offices

Guernsey Post announces that it will issue a range of self-stick stamps showcasing the wonderful coasts of Guernsey on 1 September 2017.

Inspired by the fashionable posters of the 1940s, the images on each set of five stamps feature a panoramic scene from the east and west coast of Guernsey.

Guernsey has produced five GY rate stamps for letters and postcards posted in the Bailiwick along with five UK rate stamps for letters and postcards sent to the UK, Jersey or Isle of Man. Booklets of 10 and 50 for the two stamp values will be available from all Guernsey Post Offices from Friday 1 September.

On the GY stamps, which depict the west coast of the island viewed from Fort Grey slipway around to Rocquaine Bay and returning to the fort, the designs are dominated by the green tones of the island’s rural landscape, contrasting with the darker shade of the sea wall and the bright blue of the water.

The UK issue stamps feature a panoramic view of the east coast of Guernsey from Albert Marina to Careening Hard, taking in Victoria Marina in the island’s capital, St Peter Port, which is considered one of Europe’s prettiest harbour towns.

Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, said: - “Our popular self-stick issues typically feature scenes from Guernsey and, whilst we wanted to maintain this theme, we have taken inspiration from the seaside posters of the 1930s/40s, which have a distinct ‘retro’ look. Sue Hamon, the stamps’ designer, has done a great job with this set and I hope that everyone else enjoys the element of nostalgia the stamps portray.

“Designed with ease of storage the booklets of 10 fit comfortably in wallets and purses, whilst small business will be able to buy booklets of 50 which can be easily stored in files or folders,” Bridget added.

The stamps are available to pre-order now at www.guernseystamps.com or by calling Philatelic Customer Services on +44 (0) 1481 716486.
