The picturesque island of Alderney offers a rich tapestry of history and culture. An interesting way to explore its heritage is through the Alderney Blue Plaque Trail, which commemorates influential people associated with the island.
From the Wombles creator to the producer of The Beatles' albums, several famous and influential people have been born in, visited, or chosen to make Alderney their home.
The Alderney Blue Plaque scheme is the Island’s version of the English Heritage blue plaques, which originated in London, and celebrates individuals, their achievements and contributions across the Bailiwick.
Established in 1866, the scheme is thought to be the oldest of its kind in the world, serving as a pioneering initiative that has inspired similar programmes across the UK and internationally.
