This year marks the 50th anniversary of the investiture of His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, as Prince of Wales by the Queen. An estimated 500 million people worldwide watched the colourful ceremony, which took place on 1 July 1969 at Caernarfon Castle in Wales.
4,000 special investiture chairs were made for the ceremony, which were manufactured by disabled workers at the Remploy factory in Bridgend. The chair backs were embossed with the Prince of Wales's feathers in gold leaf and the seats upholstered in red Welsh tweed.
