For immediate release: 31 January 2012
Guernsey Post stamps is pleased to announce details of its 2012 programme which will cover 12 new issues.
This year's programme begins with the release on 22 February of two highlights in the calendar: a commemorative issue in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, which marks 60 years since her accession, and a special issue, including a prestige booklet, to mark the centenary year of the sinking of the Titanic, which has a little-known link to the island of Alderney.
As ever, the programme includes subjects which recognise the natural beauty of the Channel Islands; the Europa stamps will feature the theme "Visit...The Bailiwick of Guernsey" (1 April); and continuing its Alderney Invertebrates series, Guernsey Post stamps will issue Tiger moths and Ermines (25 July).
Other subjects which feature in this year's programme are: - the Bengal Tiger, as part of the Endangered Species series (22 Feb); Prince William's 30th Birthday (8th May); 200th Anniversary of Charles Dickens (8th May); the War of 1812 and Sir Isaac Brock which is a joint issue with Canada Post and will be released on 15th June; The Centenary of the Royal Yacht Club - Guernsey (25 July); and The History of Alderney Harbour (31 Oct).
Rounding off the programme will be Christmas stamps for both Guernsey and Alderney, together with the 2012 Yearbook which will feature all 12 issues.
Dawn Gallienne, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post said: - "From Tiger Moths and Ermines for our Invertebrates series, to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, we have provided an interesting and diverse range of issues which will appeal to our existing collectors as well as those new to philately."
